About Zindua Dada Center
Zindua Dada Center is a community-based organization started in February 2005 and duly registered by the Ministry of gender, Sports, and Social Services, serving the region of Bunyala South, Budalang’i Busia County. The establishment of this organization was stimulated by the concern about the socio-economic development needs of the local community characterized by high poverty levels. Whereas lots of efforts have been made to reverse the situation, poverty remains a huge challenge to the region and the residents.
Our main objective is: to promote community-managed development through programs that are people-centered, holistic, sustainable and impact-driven.
The team is led by a locally elected Management Board comprising mainly of volunteers drawn from various sectors and representing the community groups. Apart from technical personnel, the CBO has adopted a team strategy of building on existing community resources, embracing an empowering approach that gives opportunity to the poor, voiceless and engaging them directly as co-partners in development and implementation at all levels.
History
Starting 2005 to 2007, the first batch of 25 young girls who had dropped out of school mainly due to pregnancy or poverty-related issues was provided with skills training in dressmaking. Most of them are now fully engaged in the trade and and are economically independent leading better lives.
Between 2007 to 2009, the CBO started an Early Childhood Development program to address the diverse needs of the community’s young orphans and vulnerable children. The Lindi Educare Center which operates fully as a community school managed by parents is now offering education up to primary level.
